Everything you need to know before we go.
From getting to the Osa to what to pack, what to expect, and the questions that naturally arise along the way.
TRAVEL LOGISTICS
Getting there is part of the journey.
Reaching one of the wildest places on Earth is a journey of its own. We’ve thoughtfully arranged the travel that takes us from San José into the heart of the Osa, so that once you arrive in Costa Rica, you can settle in and let us guide the way.
GETTING TO SAN JOSÉ
Saturday, January 16
Your journey begins in San José, Costa Rica. Please plan to arrive at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) on Saturday, January 16. You’ll book your own international flight to Costa Rica, and we’ll take it from there.
Upon arrival, transportation from the airport to our accommodations for the evening will be arranged for you. We’ll stay overnight in San José before continuing to the Osa together the following morning.
Details about our San José accommodations and arrival-day transportation will be shared with registered participants as we get closer to the retreat.
GETTING TO LUNA Lodge
Sunday, January 17
On Sunday morning, we’ll travel together to the San José domestic airport and board a short flight to Puerto Jiménez, the largest town on the Osa Peninsula.
The 40-minute flight carries us south from the city toward the wild, forested coastline of the Osa.
From Puerto Jiménez, we’ll continue by ground transportation on a scenic two-hour drive to Luna Lodge, traveling deeper into the peninsula as the landscape becomes increasingly wild. Keep your eyes open along the way—this is our first opportunity to encounter some of the remarkable wildlife that calls the Osa home.
We’ll arrive at Luna Lodge in the afternoon with time to settle into our accommodations and begin to take in our surroundings. We’ll share our first meals at Luna and, that evening, gather for an opening circle to mark the beginning of our retreat.
Leaving Luna Lodge
Saturday, January 23
On our final morning at Luna, we’ll gather for a closing circle, bringing our time together in the rainforest to completion before beginning the journey home.
And we have something particularly special planned for our departure.
Rather than retracing our route to Puerto Jiménez, we’ll make the short journey down the mountainside to the Carate airstrip, situated along the beach directly below Luna Lodge, where private charter planes will carry us directly back to San José.
Taking off from the edge of the Pacific, we’ll rise above the coastline and rainforest we’ve spent the week immersed in, flying over Luna Lodge and Corcovado National Park along the way. From the air, the scale of this place reveals itself in an entirely different way—an immense canopy of rainforest stretching toward the horizon, edged by wild coastline and open sea.
The approximately 50-minute flight becomes a private aerial tour of the Osa, offering one last perspective on the extraordinary landscape that has held us throughout the week. We can think of no more fitting way to say goodbye.
Because each aircraft accommodates four to five passengers, we’ll depart in small groups throughout the morning and early afternoon.
PLANNING YOUR FLIGHT HOME
Our charter flights will arrive at the San José domestic airport, located directly across the street from Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). From there, you can continue to the international airport for your flight home or begin whatever adventures you have planned next.
If you plan to fly home on Saturday, January 23, the earliest international departure you should book from San José is 1:00 PM. Because we’ll be flying out of Carate in small groups throughout the morning, please contact us before booking your return flight so we can ensure there is space on a charter early enough to get you to the airport in time for your departure.
If you’re extending your stay in Costa Rica, transportation and accommodations following our return to San José will be your responsibility.
FOR THE JOURNEY INTO THE osa
Pack light. Travel light.
Because our return journey from the Osa will be aboard small charter aircraft, luggage is limited to 25 lbs per person. We strongly recommend packing in a soft-sided duffel or travel bag rather than a hard-shell suitcase, as soft-sided bags allow us to make the best use of the aircraft’s limited luggage space.
Fortunately, Luna makes packing light a little easier. Organic, locally made shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and lotion are provided throughout our stay, so you can leave many of your everyday toiletries at home.
If you’re extending your travels in Costa Rica and need additional belongings for the rest of your trip, we can arrange for extra luggage to be securely stored in San José while we’re at Luna Lodge.
We’ll carry the spirit of the retreat into the way we pack—simplifying, lightening, and bringing only what we need.
WE’LL HELP YOU PREPARE
Everything you need, before you go.
Once you register, you’ll receive a detailed Retreat Information Packet with everything you need to prepare for our time together—from a rainforest packing list and final travel details to arrival and departure instructions and other helpful information for your journey.
You won’t need to figure it all out on your own. We’ll make sure you know what to bring, where to be, and what to expect before we go.
Frequently Asked Questions
You may be wondering…
Here are answers to some of the questions that come up most often as you consider joining us.
-
Retreat to Remember is open to people of all genders and is designed for those longing for space to step away from the pace and responsibilities of everyday life and reconnect with themselves, with others, and with the living world.
You may be arriving at a threshold, moving through a season of change, feeling called toward something new, or simply recognizing that it’s time to replenish your own well. You do not need to arrive with a particular intention—only a willingness to be present and curious about what might emerge.
-
Not at all. No previous experience with Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, mantra, kirtan, or any of the practices we’ll explore is necessary.
Everything will be offered in an accessible way, with enough context and guidance for those encountering these traditions for the first time while leaving room for those with an established practice to deepen their experience.
-
Each day will have its own rhythm, shaped by a balance of practice, exploration, nourishment, connection, and rest. Our days may include yoga and movement, breathwork, Ayurvedic teachings and experiential workshops, meditation, time immersed in the rainforest, ritual and ceremony, and evenings of kirtan and sacred sound.
There will also be spaciousness built into our days—to rest, swim, wander, receive a treatment, journal, connect with others, or simply be.
Rather than following a rigid schedule, we’ll allow the rhythm of our days to respond to the practices, the place, and the experience unfolding among us.
-
No. Everything we offer is an invitation.
We encourage you to participate fully in the retreat experience while also listening to your own body and honoring what you need. Sometimes the most meaningful choice may be joining the group; other times it may be taking an afternoon nap, sitting quietly beneath the trees, or simply giving yourself permission to rest.
-
The retreat will include yoga, embodied movement, walking, time outdoors, and opportunities to explore the rainforest, but it is not intended to be a strenuous fitness retreat.
Most practices can be adapted to different bodies and levels of experience. That said, Luna Lodge is located in a mountainous rainforest environment, and navigating the property involves hills, stairs, and uneven terrain. If you have mobility limitations or concerns about whether the physical environment will be accessible for you, please contact us before registering so we can talk through what to expect.
-
We think of it less as a set of rules around technology and more as an invitation to become fully present to the world around you.
Wi-Fi is available at Luna Lodge, so you’ll be able to connect when you need to. At the same time, we encourage you to use this week as an opportunity to step away from the constant input of everyday life—to put down your devices, awaken your senses, and trade screen time for wild time.
There will be plenty here to connect with: the rainforest, yourself, and one another.
-
The retreat doesn’t end when we leave the rainforest.
Following our time in Costa Rica, we’ll gather again through a series of three online integration circles designed to keep what we re/membered close. Together, we’ll revisit the insights, intentions, and practices that emerged during our time at Luna and explore what it looks like to bring them into our daily lives.
The retreat
-
Absolutely. You do not need to know anyone else attending the retreat in order to join us.
If you’re traveling alone and would like to share accommodations, please contact us before booking. We’ll do our best to match you with a compatible roommate if another solo traveler is seeking the same arrangement. If we’re unable to make a suitable match, a single-occupancy accommodation will be required.
If you'd like to share accommodations but don't yet have a roommate, you can still reserve your place. Reserve with a $595 deposit while we work with you to determine your accommodations.
-
Shared occupancy is intended primarily for guests traveling together—friends, partners, spouses, or family members who are comfortable sharing a room.
Sleeping arrangements vary by accommodation and occupancy level. Some triple- and quadruple-occupancy arrangements require two guests to share a double bed, so please review the accommodation details carefully before booking.
If you’re traveling alone and hoping to share, contact us first and we’ll explore whether roommate matching is possible.
-
Each offers a different way of experiencing Luna.
The Rainforest Bungalows offer the most spacious and private experience, with expansive windows, private decks, and handcrafted interiors immersed in the forest. Hacienda Rooms are fully enclosed and conveniently located near the main lodge and swimming pool. Safari Tents offer an elevated glamping experience, bringing you especially close to the sights and sounds of the rainforest while still providing a private bathroom, electricity, and comfortable beds.
You can explore photographs, amenities, occupancy options, and pricing for each on our Stay + Pricing page.
-
Meals at Luna are fresh, nourishing, and prepared with an emphasis on local ingredients, reflecting the vibrant flavors of Costa Rica. While an “Ayurvedic diet” is often associated with Indian cuisine, it is not defined by a particular culinary tradition. hroughout the week, we’ll approach nutrition through an Ayurvedic lens—exploring how intelligent choices around food can support balance and well-being.
Luna Lodge is very accommodating of dietary restrictions, food allergies, and individual dietary needs. We ask that you share your needs with us in advance so the kitchen has plenty of time to prepare for your stay.
-
January falls within the Osa Peninsula’s drier season, but this is still a tropical rainforest. Expect warm temperatures, humidity, abundant sunshine, and the possibility of rain.
The rainforest has its own rhythms, and weather can change quickly. Your Retreat Information Packet will include recommendations for clothing, footwear, rain protection, and everything else you’ll want for staying comfortable in the Osa.
-
Luna Lodge is beautifully comfortable, but make no mistake: we will be living in the rainforest. The Osa is extraordinarily alive, and that aliveness is something you will see, hear, and feel throughout our stay.
The rainforest is also loud. Birds, cicadas, frogs, howler monkeys, rain, and countless other sounds create a continuous soundtrack, day and night. For many people, this becomes one of the most memorable parts of being there, but light sleepers may want to bring earplugs for nighttime.
And where there is extraordinary biodiversity, there is wildlife of every kind. Insects, frogs, lizards, snakes, monkeys, and other creatures are part of the environment, and encounters are possible. The Osa is also home to venomous species. We’ll share guidance for safely and respectfully moving through the rainforest, and Luna’s experienced staff know this environment intimately.
STAYING AT LUNA
-

You won’t have to figure out the rest on your own. After registering, you’ll receive a detailed Retreat Information Packet with a complete rainforest packing list and everything you need to prepare for our journey.
-
We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance for your trip.
A good policy can provide protection for circumstances such as trip cancellation or interruption, travel delays, lost luggage, and unexpected medical needs while traveling. Because retreat payments are subject to our cancellation policy, we encourage you to review coverage carefully and choose a policy appropriate for your individual circumstances.
-
Absolutely. Costa Rica has so much to explore, and you’re welcome to extend your travels on either side of the retreat.

For guests requesting shared accommodations: We will do our best to pair solo travelers with a compatible roommate; however, roommate matching cannot be guaranteed. If a suitable roommate is unavailable, single occupancy will be required and the corresponding single-occupancy rate will apply.
Because accommodations and retreat arrangements are reserved in advance on your behalf, all deposits and retreat payments are non-refundable, except as specifically outlined below.
If You Need to Cancel
We understand that plans can change and unexpected circumstances arise. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your reservation to another eligible guest, subject to approval by the retreat organizers.
Approved reservation transfers are subject to a $150 administrative transfer fee to cover the time and costs associated with updating registration and retreat arrangements. The incoming guest must complete all required registration materials and agree to the retreat's terms and policies. Any additional expenses resulting from the transfer—including changes to accommodations, transportation, flights, or other arrangements already made on your behalf—will be the responsibility of the transferring guest.

If we are unable to fill your place, your payments remain non-refundable.
Cancellation by the Retreat Organizers
In the unlikely event that Retreat to Remember must be cancelled by the retreat organizers for reasons beyond our control, all retreat payments made directly to the organizers, including your deposit, will be fully refunded.
The retreat organizers are not responsible for expenses incurred outside of your retreat payment, including international airfare, transportation, additional accommodations, passport expenses, travel insurance, or other travel-related costs.
Circumstances Beyond Our Control
In rare circumstances, events beyond the reasonable control of the retreat organizers may make it impossible to operate the retreat as planned. These circumstances may include severe weather, natural disasters, government actions or travel restrictions, public health emergencies, civil unrest, war, transportation disruptions, closure or inaccessibility of the retreat venue, or other extraordinary circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
If such circumstances arise, we will make every reasonable effort to find the most appropriate solution, which may include modifying or rescheduling the retreat, providing a credit toward a rescheduled retreat or future offering, or issuing refunds to the extent that funds paid to venues and other service providers are recoverable.
Because some retreat expenses are paid in advance and may be non-refundable, we cannot guarantee a full cash refund when cancellation or interruption results from circumstances beyond our control.
For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended.
Unexpected circumstances can arise before or during travel, including illness, injury, family emergencies, flight disruptions, severe weather, or other events beyond anyone's control.
We encourage you to purchase a policy that includes trip cancellation and interruption coverage, emergency medical coverage, and coverage for travel delays or disruptions. Please review your policy carefully to ensure it provides appropriate coverage for your individual circumstances and the non-refundable costs associated with your retreat and travel.
Travel insurance is the responsibility of each participant.
Changes During the Retreat
Retreat itineraries and activities may occasionally need to be adjusted due to weather, local conditions, transportation, participant safety, or other circumstances. Such changes do not constitute cancellation of the retreat and do not entitle participants to a refund.
If a participant chooses to arrive late, leave early, or is unable to participate in any portion of the retreat, no refund or credit will be provided for unused accommodations, meals, activities, transportation, or other retreat services.
